SAND EEL

Gymnammodytes cicerelus

It is a small sized fish with a very elongated and almost cylindrical body, the lower jaw is very prominent ending in a point. Its colour is greenish blue with a silver stripe on each side, and with bright blue spots on the head.

It lives on sandy sea bottoms located in depths between 5 and 80 m or more. It feeds on crustaceans and small fish and molluscs.

It can have lengths of approximately 15 cm and exceptionally it can reach 18 cm.

Its spawning season is from November to January.

It is captured with longline.
