Mullus barbatus

Medium-sized fish with a very droopy forehead, and small mouth with two barbels under the lower jaw, which serves as an organ that senses taste and touch. The body is reddish, with golden reflections.

It is a schooling fish that lives near the coast, in sandy or muddy sea bottoms, up to about 200 m deep. It feeds on small crustaceans and molluscs.

Its maximum length is 30 cm, usually ranging between 10 and 20 cm.

Its spawning season is from April to August.

It is captured with different gear: Dragnet and trammel.

Semi-fatty white fish, it has a number of proteins, vitamins and minerals.
