JOHN DORY

Zeus faber

It is a fish with a relatively short, high body, and flat on its sides, with very prominent jaws. It is violet grey with silver highlights. It has a large black spot in the centre of each side bordered by a white circular stripe.

It lives between two waters, in the coastal zone, at depths between 10 and 50 meters, but it can go deep at 200 meters, or rise close to the surface. It feeds on small fish.

It is a fish that can attain lengths ranging from 30 to 50 cm, with a maximum length of 65 cm and weigh 8 kg.

Its spawning season is from November to May.

It is captured with different gear: Dragnet, trammel and longline.

Its meat is of excellent quality
