Sciaena umbra

Fish of a high and short body that presents a strong curved back. It has a dark grey colour, with yellowish green reflections, the sides are lighter and the belly is silvery.

It is a coastal fish, which lives on rocks and algae bottoms, from depths of 6 m, ranging between 10 and 15 m. It feeds on small fish and crustaceans.

It can reach lengths of 70 cm, although it normally attains a length of approximately 28 cm and 4 kg of weight.

Its spawning season is between March and August.

It is captured with different gear: Trammel, longline and fixed gillnets.

Its meat is exquisite and very easy to cook.
