CHUB MACKEREL

Scomber(pneumatophorus)japonicus

Blue fish, different from a “true mackerel” by having a very sharp head and larger eyes. It also has a large number of brown spots and stripes, while the belly is silver.

It is usually found from the surface of the water up to a depth of 300 meters, commonly between 50 and 200 meters. It feeds on small fish and pelagic invertebrates.

Its length ranges between 15 and 30 cm, but can reach 50 cm.

Its spawning season is from June to August.

It is captured with different gear: Dragnet and fixed gillnets.

Its flesh is tender and slightly bony.
