BLUE WHITING

Micromesistius poutassou

It is a fish with an elongated body and covered in small scales, with large, bright eyes. It has a grey back with brown or bluish tones and a white belly.

It lives on sandy bottoms, it can be found in depths between 300-400 m. It feeds on crustaceans, small fish and cephalopods.

It is a fish that can attain lengths of up 50 cm, most commonly ranging from 15 to 30 cm.

Its spawning season is from January to March.

It is usually fished with a dragnet.

White fish with a low fat content. It stands out for being a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals.
