BLACKSPOT SEABREAM

Pagellus bogaraveo

It is a portly and long fish, its mouth is quite large and its head is relatively small with large eyes. The back is grey pink, the sides are silver and it has a black spot behind the head. All its fins have a reddish or orange colour.

It normally lives at depths between 150-300 meters, on rocky and sandy sea bottoms. In winter, it tends to live at greater depths and in the springtime, it approaches coastal depths. It is a voracious carnivore of crustaceans and feeds on other invertebrates and small fish.

Its general length is between 30 and 40 cm, although it can reach 70 cm.

It is captured with different gear: Dragnet and longlines.
